# Ask Xerg

> Ask questions about your map in plain words, like "what breaks if Stripe goes down?"

Ask Xerg answers questions about your workspace's map, and links the items it mentions. Open **Ask** at the top of the left rail.

![Ask Xerg, answering a question about the map](https://mintcdn.com/xerg/6hvtUTgUAzGk9LhV/images/ask.webp?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=6hvtUTgUAzGk9LhV\&q=85\&s=c8d5b08511e897928fa22a52e40b734d)

## What to ask

* "What breaks if Stripe goes down?"
* "Where is `DATABASE_URL` used?"
* "Who owns the billing app?"
* "What changed this week?"
* "Which services aren't connected yet?"
* "What should we connect next?"

Answers come from the map, through the same read-only tools coding agents use (see the [tool reference](https://xerg.ai/docs/coding-agents/tools.md)). Ask can't change anything, and it only knows env variable names, never values.

## Who can ask

Members, admins and owners. Viewers see the map but can't ask. See [Teams and roles](https://xerg.ai/docs/teams-and-roles.md).

## Limits

Today a workspace can ask 200 questions a day, and each person 60 a day in a workspace. Once billing is live, a workspace's daily total will depend on its plan; see [Plans](https://xerg.ai/docs/plans.md).
