# Slack

> Xerg reads the workspace name and public channel names, and points out alert and ops channels.

Read-only. Xerg reads the workspace name and public channel names, and points out alert and ops channels. It never reads messages.

Only admins and owners can connect services. See [Connecting a service](https://xerg.ai/docs/connect/overview.md) for where to find Connect, refreshing and disconnecting.

## Connect

In Slack's details on your map (or **Connect another service…** in **settings**), choose **Sign in with Slack** and approve Xerg.

Xerg asks Slack for these scopes, and nothing else:

* `team:read`
* `channels:read`
